Summertime

We're Done!
We Finished!
It was so much fun
and a whole lot of work.

I would feel remiss if I didn't write this blog post,
I have had a little experience with this subject.

What should we do this summer?

Every day ---

1.
Chores, you know, work.
Every little person should have a couple of jobs.
One of them should be to get dressed, brush their teeth and comb their hair.

2.
Play outside for 30 minutes or more.
-100% non-structured-

3.
Work on small motor skills - one activity every day
How?
Play Dough
Markers
Legos
Cut and paste
Painting
Make bead necklaces
Sorting buttons
The list goes on and on...
If you want more ideas, google images for small motor skills for Kindergarteners.
-the Dollar Store has a great kids craft section-

4.
Limit electronics!
I do have a few favorite places to go though.,

5.
Read to your child every day and join the summer reading program at the Library.

Let them choose the books they want, but try a chapter book to read out loud to them.

Try

    or

And most important.....Have FuN!

Spelling Bee

The class Spelling Bees will be held in the coming week.
Here is a reminder for those of you who are practicing at home.
You have to say the word, spell the word and then say it again.

So the word 'see' would be:
see. s e e. see.

The tricky word is I
I. capital I. I

Say it, spell it, say it.

Good Luck!

Alpha Friends

I have been testing letter and sound recognition this week.
I waited to test those who have been struggling.
Here is what I have found.
When I show them the letter B
They all say, "I don't know".
Well we use Alpha Friends, so I might say
it's the the bear and they will say
b b bear, /b/b/ bear.
And I bubble over with happiness,
because they do know.

Here are some tools to use if your child is struggling.
And if they're not struggling,
we are blending words.
It's fun to practice.

Up and Running

We are happy to be back to school.
We defiantly are jumping in with both feet.
We have started testing this week
and the IRI will follow in a couple of weeks.

The IRI is a test that measure how many letters or sounds a child can read in 1 minute.
Feel free to practice at home.
A page of letters listed randomly is all you need.
